Math Centers

"Count The Room"

Mathematicians searched the room for cards that had a certain number of objects. They found the picture on their recording sheet and wrote the number of items represented on the card. They LOVED searching for the pictures!!

Number writing practice. As these books come home please look through them with your child. Ask your mathematician to explain their work and help him/her to fix any errors :-)

"Teen Dino Match"
These mathematicians are working to solve combinations of 10+ ___= (a teen number).
For example, when given the card 10+5 they were to use unifix cubes connected in a tower of ten along with single "ones cubes" to figure out the teen number card to match the equation (15). The concept of teen numbers being "ten and some more" is  huge in kindergarten. I will send this game home as a "take home game" that is to be returned after having it for a day. It will be passed on to different families.

Here you see mathematicians working to add colored hearts. They are to write the number sentence to match the picture. These thinkers also had to solve number sentences such as 2+3 and color the matching number on the recording sheet. As these sheets come home as him or her what two numbers were put together to make the number colored in.

These mathematicians worked to graph objects and colors.

Remember to ask your child to explain their work as it comes home.
:-)
We will continue with these same centers next week before moving  on to 100s day work.
